As an advertising photographer based in Manchester, I’ve had some great advertising photography shoots over the years but this one was right up there. Eveready Batteries, via my friends at Refinery Marketing, asked me to fly out to Munich to shoot their latest campaign. The face of that campaign? Harry Kane. England captain, Bayern Munich striker, one of the biggest names in world football. Not a bad brief to land on your desk 😉
Harry is a seriously busy man. We flew out to Munich for three days but my window with him was just two hours. That’s it. So you prep properly, you know exactly what you need, and when the time comes you make every second count. No messing about.
We split the shoot between studio and location. Getting Harry out on the training pitch gave the campaign photography that real, authentic feel you simply can’t manufacture in a studio alone. The brief from Eveready was all about energy and performance. Which, when your subject is Harry Kane, isn’t a hard brief to deliver on.
The location work was done at a training facility in Munich, a proper football environment. Eveready branding all round the pitch, Harry doing what he does. It looked the part.
Back in the studio I had full control of the lighting, so we worked through a range of set-ups. Kit shots, product shots with the batteries, different expressions. Harry was great to work with. Relaxed, professional, did everything asked of him. You’d expect nothing less from the England captain I suppose 😉
The final image is one of the finished Eveready ads. “Trusted Performance. Always Ready.” Which sums the whole thing up nicely. Ultimately, good campaign photography is about giving the client images that work hard in the finished piece, and I think Eveready got exactly that.
A big thanks to the team at Refinery Marketing, always a pleasure working with them. If you’re looking for an advertising photographer in Manchester or further afield, get in touch. I can’t promise Harry Kane every time. But I’ll do my best
